We’ve pulled together some of the FAQs we’ve been asked over the years, in case you have any questions as part of the application or recruitment process.
-
How do I apply for a vacancy?
You can search open roles on our vacancies hub. You can apply directly by clicking on the “Apply” button.
-
I can’t remember the password for my account. How do I reset it?
Not a problem! You can reset your password here. Simply navigate to the ‘Sign In’ icon and select ‘Forgot your password?’. Enter your e-mail address and you will receive a link to reset your password. Check your spam folder if you did not receive a link, otherwise contact us at [email protected] and we can help you troubleshoot.
-
Why do I need to complete the verification step? What if I don’t have the details required?
To make sure your information is kept safe, we have a verification step when you log in. A code is sent to the mobile number that’s listed on your candidate account.
If you did not enter a mobile number or do not receive the text code, please email [email protected] for help.

How long will it take? When will I hear back about my application?
For some roles, we receive a high volume of applications, however we will always try to get back to you as soon as we can!
Each application is reviewed individually by the Talent Acquisition team and hiring leaders. Please note that some roles may close earlier than the advertised closing date, depending on the volume of applications received.
If you're waiting for a response to a job application, the best way to keep up to date is to log into your careers account and check the progress of your application. When your application advances to the next step, you will receive an update email, so check your inbox frequently (sometimes these can end up in your spam folder, which is worth double checking).
If your application status has not changed after more than two weeks, please contact us using your account login or by emailing [email protected].

I have an interview coming up, what do I need to know?
Congratulations for being selected for an interview!
The important information you'll need for your interview will be provided in your confirmation email. This includes the position description, where and when your interview will take place, who you will be meeting with and what you will need to bring/prepare. At Southern Cross, not all interviews are performed in person. Microsoft Teams can be used to conduct interviews when both parties are unable to be in the same location. This will be clearly stated in the interview confirmation email.
To help you prepare for your interview:
- Read the position description for the role you're applying for and make sure you understand the essential responsibilities.
- Consider how your past experiences might align with the job requirements and come prepared with some examples to share during the interview.
- You may be asked some behavioural questions during the interview. To help you prepare, we recommend familiarising yourself with the STAR technique.
- This method helps you structure your responses by clearly outlining the context (Situation), your specific responsibility or objective (Task), the steps you took to address the situation (Action), and the outcome of your efforts (Result).
- Spend some time exploring our website, getting to know us, and understand what we do.
- Come prepared with any questions you have for the interviewers. This could be related to Southern Cross, the role, the leader themselves, or any further information you’d like to know.
- Plan your travel to the interview by researching how long your journey will take via your mode of transport. We do not offer parking, however there is paid parking in the surrounding area.
- If you are having a virtual interview, prepare by ensuring you have a strong Wi-Fi connection, a quiet space with minimal distractions, and adequate lighting.
-
Why do I need to complete an assessment?
Recruitment assessment tests are an opportunity for us to learn more about you and ensure the best fit for the role. If you progress to this stage, we will provide you with all the necessary information to help you feel well-prepared. This includes having a strong Wi-Fi connection and a quiet space with minimal distractions. We also recommend completing a test scenario if available. An assessment is just one part of our comprehensive evaluation process, which also considers your work history, experience, qualifications, CV, and interview.
-
Who should I provide as a referee?
We will only contact referees whose contact information you provide; we will not contact previous employers listed on your CV without your consent.
- You will receive an email from our online reference platform provider to provide us with details of 2 current or past managers within the last 5 years.
- We prefer that referees have a business email address. Please contact us if this isn’t possible.
- We ask that they are not personal recommendations, friends, or co-workers.
- If you could provide your referees with a brief overview of the role and ask them to expect an email from our provider and if they could complete this as soon as possible.
- If providing referees as specified above is not possible for any reason, please email [email protected].
-

- NZ work eligibility check
- Ministry of Justice check
- Credit check (if applicable to the role)
- Civil checks (if applicable to the role)
- Transcripts or Qualifications documentation
